Paulo Mapunda (54) Resident of Kipingu Village, Ruhuhu Ward, Ludewa District, Njombe Region has survived after being attacked by a Crocodile while cleaning the intestine of a pig along the Ruhuhu River and amputated his right leg at the knee. Mapunda said January Mosi at five o'clock in the morning at his home there was a confirmation ceremony so they slaughtered a pig where he took the intestine to clean it in the river while he was in the canoe then the crocodile came out and opened the canoe and then he fell into the water. He said that the crocodile grabbed his right leg and drowned him in the water but he struggled to hold on to the canoe while they were pulling and he was shouting for help when the people came out to help the crocodile cut off his leg and left with them then he was rescued and rushed to Peramiho Hospital. Until now, he has already received initial treatment and he needs to undergo surgery, but he is unable to get the service due to not having the money to pay for the treatment while asking the Government to send them water pipes because people have been injured by crocodiles from time to time. The executive of the ward Yusuph Lukuwi has confirmed the occurrence of the incident while Kipingu Village Chairman Alponce Mbeya said that after the incident occurred they borrowed money in the amount of Tsh. 700,000 for the patient car and initial treatment and they were not enough so there is still a need for more money for treatment.
